We will deliver the civil engineering works required to support the development, including access tracks, turbine foundations and associated infrastructure.
The appointment was announced last night at the Cardiff Business Club and represents the beginning of a partnership that will deliver one of the most significant renewable energy projects currently progressing in Wales.
Twyn Hywel Energy Park will generate around 92 MW of clean electricity, enough to power approximately 81,000 homes every year. In addition to strengthening Wales’ renewable energy capacity, the project will also deliver significant long-term benefits to local communities through investment, employment and skills development.
Projects of this scale are central to Wales’ transition to a low-carbon economy and align closely with the Welsh Government’s ambitions set out in Net Zero Wales and Future Wales: The National Plan 2040, which place renewable energy generation, regional investment and skills development at the heart of the country’s future prosperity.
For Knights Brown, being trusted to deliver this project reflects our long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality infrastructure across Wales and the wider UK. As the demand for renewable energy grows, we are proud that our teams are helping to deliver the infrastructure that will support the next generation of energy in Wales.
As a Welsh employer with more than 150 highly skilled people working across the country, we are committed to ensuring that projects like Twyn Hywel create opportunities that extend well beyond construction.
Our involvement will enable further investment in employment and skills development in the communities surrounding the project. Through apprenticeships, industry placements and work experience opportunities, we will support young people and those looking to begin a career in construction and engineering.
Supporting Welsh businesses will also be a key priority. Our ambition is that around 90% of project spend will remain within Wales, strengthening the Welsh supply chain and creating opportunities for local companies to play a central role in delivering this nationally significant project.
Alongside economic investment, the project will deliver a programme of social value that supports local communities. This will include engagement with schools and colleges to promote STEM education and engineering careers, community investment initiatives, and support for grassroots organisations across the region.
For us, Twyn Hywel Energy Park represents more than a renewable energy project. It is an opportunity to contribute to Wales’ energy future while supporting Welsh jobs, Welsh businesses and Welsh communities.
Steve Price, Divisional Director for Energy at Knights Brown, said:
“Twyn Hywel Energy Park represents the type of infrastructure Wales needs to support its transition to clean energy while also delivering meaningful economic benefit locally. As a Welsh employer, we are proud to be working alongside Bute Energy to deliver a project that will support jobs, skills and investment across the country.”
We look forward to working alongside Bute Energy and our partners to deliver a project that leaves a lasting legacy for both the country’s energy infrastructure and the communities we are proud to serve here in Wales.
