Knights Brown, the independent civil engineering and construction company, has reported record results, with turnover rising to £136m, driven by strong performance across its core sectors of coasts & ports, energy and water.
The business, which employs around 350 people and operates across southern England, Wales and the UK’s energy network, has delivered significant year-on-year improvement through a clear focus on technically complex infrastructure work.
Turnover increased to £136m (from £116m previously), while gross margin rose to £15m, reflecting disciplined delivery and commercial performance. Profitability also advanced, with EBITA reaching £5.4m (4.0%).
Knights Brown has strengthened its balance sheet, with net assets increasing by £2.1m and a year-end cash position of £12.6m, supporting continued investment and growth.
Sector performance
Continued focus on technically demanding projects across coasts & ports, energy and water has underpinned both growth and improving margins.
Across coasts & ports, projects are progressing through both delivery and early-stage development. In energy, the business is expanding its capability in grid infrastructure, battery storage and wind across the UK. In water, pipeline visibility is positioning the company for increased delivery in the forthcoming investment cycle.
Alongside this, Knights Brown continues to deliver infrastructure and building projects, including highways, regeneration and specialist facilities, supporting integrated solutions for clients where required.
Leadership comment
Kevin Valentine, Group Managing Director at Knights Brown, said:
“This has been another very strong year for Knights Brown, built on consistent delivery across our chosen sectors and the commitment of our people across the business.
We’ve remained focused on the markets where we can add real value, particularly in coasts & ports, energy and water, and that clarity is translating into both growth and improved performance.
Just as importantly, we’ve strengthened the foundations of the business, from our financial position to the way we’re structured to deliver for clients. That puts us in a confident position to continue building momentum in the year ahead.”
Pipeline and outlook
Knights Brown enters the new financial year with more than half of its budgeted turnover already secured, supported by a substantial pipeline where the business is engaged as a preferred contractor or through early-stage involvement.
Recent contract awards and framework positions across renewable energy and marine infrastructure, are expected to support further growth.
The company has also reorganised into four divisions – Energy, Water, Southern & South East, and Wales – aligning delivery with its sector focus and regional markets.
Looking ahead, Knights Brown expects turnover to increase further, supported by secured work, pipeline visibility and continued investment in its people and capabilities.
