Challenges

The design to which we were working had been approved by National Highways three years prior to works starting. Since approval, the traffic signal design had fallen outside of updated design requirements.

The drainage design had been developed from incorrect information.

Solutions

Our site team and designers worked closely with National Highways to find a solution while avoiding a full redesign.

We were able to revise the incorrect drainage design into a working design, incorporating value engineering and removing a flow control system, having found an excessive measure for surface water.

Outcome

The works improved the safety and flow of traffic through the junction, reducing delays and improving journey times.

We worked closely with National Highways and West Sussex Council to develop traffic management plans and alterations that would improve safety, site access and overall output.
