LOCATION:
A design and construct contract for ABP to reinforce and upgrade the quayside to support RoRo operations and the opening of the ‘Horizon’ cruise terminal.
Queen Mary 2 moored alongside berth 102 during the works.
The works took place over 400m of the quayside and included the replacement of over 5,000m² of heavy duty fibre reinforced concrete paving and incorporated ship-to-shore power connectivity.
- Over 5,000m² of heavy duty fibre reinforced concrete paving.
- Ship-to-shore power connectivity.
- 14, 150-tonne bollards.
- Service trough and crane rail running.
Challenges
Hydrodemolition to the quay.
Budget and cost constraints.
Solution
Working with our designer, Marbas, we developed a solution that significantly reduced the amount of hydro demolotion that was needed.
We rationalised the anchorage arrangement, which delivered both time and cost savings.
Outcome
The upgrade to the quayside supported ABP’s RoRo and cruise operations, delivering increased flexibility for the positioning of ships at the port and cargo operations.
