Mindenhurst development infrastructure upgrades

LOCATION:

Surrey
Knights Brown has completed the first phase of major local infrastructure upgrades in Surrey, delivered on behalf of Skanska.

Key elements of the project included:

Gole Road / Dawney Hill Improvements

Knights Brown delivered a coordinated package of highway and active‑travel improvements, including:

  • Widening Dawney Hill to create a two‑lane northbound approach with a dedicated left‑turn lane
  • Completing extensive and complex utility diversions
  • Upgrading footpaths and constructing a new layby
  • Installing an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing
  • Enhancing local bus stop infrastructure

These improvements provide increased capacity and safer movement for all road users.

 A322 / M3 Junction 3 Upgrades

To ease congestion at one of the key access points to the motorway network, the team delivered:

  • A new third northbound lane approaching M3 Junction 3
  • Relocation of the existing Toucan crossing
  • Improved pedestrian crossing points near South Farm Lane
  • Full resurfacing of the carriageway

The works were delivered through close collaboration with Skanska, local authorities and utilities partners.

Challenges

The challenge was to increase road capacity, improve safety for all users and complete extensive utility diversions, all within a constrained urban environment and tight construction programme. Works also had to be carefully managed to minimise disruption, with much of the activity carried out overnight and during severe weather.

Solutions

The improvements are now contributing to smoother traffic flow, reduced queuing and safer provision for pedestrians and cyclists.

Early completion of the phase has been well received locally and provides a strong foundation for upcoming works at Gordon’s Roundabout and Frimley Green later this year.

Outcome

The works support the transport requirements of the Mindenhurst development, a new community in Deepcut Village that will provide 1,200 new homes along with a primary school, nursery, sports pitches and village amenities.

Completed ahead of schedule, this phase improves safety, accessibility and traffic flow for both existing and future residents.
