Right Works | A Day to Remember

Awards & Events

Right Works is how we approach continuous improvement.

Right Works is how we approach continuous improvement. It comprises a code of practice, competition between divisions and sites, an annual forum, and individual and team awards. What has become known as Right Works Day, took place on 23 October 2024.

The day began with a focus on sharing best practice. First up, the current crop of finalists for the Right Works Awards to explain what was exceptional about how they ran their sites.

Following on, the role of planning in preventing accidents and incidents and how best practice involves the site team, specifically the foremen and gangers, in that process.

The underlying theme for the whole day would be a health and safety one, which was brought to the fore by guest speaker, Jason Anker. He spoke about the journey he has been on since a workplace accident left him in a wheelchair at just 24. It proved to be a wholly compelling account that laid bare the consequences of our actions and why we take risks. Jason was followed by Tim Marsh, delving into safety culture, human error, well-being and resilience, looking at how we put ourselves at risk. In all, it was a remarkable session leaving plenty of food for thought and much to work with in our determination to make our workplaces safer and healthier.

Come the evening, we celebrated some amazing teams and individuals at our Right Works Awards.

Our Wales & Energy Division’s Necton team was crowned Right Works Champion. The project in Norfolk, is to upgrade a 400kV substation to enable three offshore wind farms to be connected to the distribution network. On site they’ve been able to create a truly positive culture, reflected in their passion and evidenced by the continual pushing of best practice and the delivery of exceptional quality of the work.

Our three Outstanding Contribution Award winners have equally created positive work environments, overcome challenges, showed great leadership, and influenced improved outcomes.

We are mighty proud of them all and so pleased they are part of our team.

Always a highlight in Knights Brown’s calendar, this day has another important role. One of bringing people from all parts of our business together, helping build a strong team spirit and we hope, a sense of belonging.

Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to all guests and attendees, for your contribution to making the day so memorable.
